Onyx Ashanti
[Onyx Ashanti] is and has been an iterated social construct since 1992 when the name emerged as a means to explore the zeitgeist, partly as [artist] through the art of street busking, which allowed for,
partly as [anthropologist] through full immersion in the places, moments, people and phenomena encountered and partly as [designer] as means of asking questions and creating optimal, functional outcomes and artifacts. From 1992-2010 there was a steady trajectory toward being able to perform all elements of music production ever more efficiently and simultaneously, leading to the creation of a musical interface (2011) he dubbed, a “beatjazz contrlr”.
From there, it has become a multi-vector exploratory expedition: CAD design, 3d printing, puredata, raspberry pi computing. Since 2014, onyx has lived in detroit where he iterates his sonologic, called [metabyte] and uses it to transduce information to and from his body from within an exomembranic bodymesh.
